About the Department

Under the leadership of the Associate Vice Chancellor for Physical Planning, Development and Operations (PPDO), Capital and Space Planning and Space Management plan for capital (any long-term asset, such as land or a building) projects and manages campus space for students, faculty, staff, academic and administrative units.

Capital Planning includes: working with campus stakeholders from the concept of a capital project on programming and project financial feasibility,  as well as preparing the annual Capital Financial Plan (CFP) for Regents' acceptance.

Space Planning includes: coordinating with campus administration and academic units to ensure that the use of UCSC's facilities are optimized in support of the teaching, research, and public service mission of the institution. Additionally, Space Planning makes recommendations to campus leadership aimed at ensure campus space is in alignment with strategic goals.

Space Management includes: aiding in the management of space, ensuring Principles of Space Management are observed, providing the campus with analyses to aid decisions regarding major capital projects and other campus planning endeavors, and managing information on the utilization of space, particularly utilization of classrooms and class labs.
